The National Conciliator submitted a conciliation proposal for universities

The National Conciliator has submitted a conciliation proposal concerning the collective agreement negotiations for universities. The negotiating parties have to submit their answers to the proposal on Wednesday. 

The National Conciliator Anu Sajavaara submitted a conciliation proposal for universities’ labour dispute on 19 May.

– The negotiations and the conciliation following the negotiations have been long and thorough. The intensive and constructive work resulted into the Conciliator being able to prepare a conciliation proposal, tells JHL’s Bargaining Specialist Matti Sallila.

The negotiating parties need to submit their answers to the conciliation proposal by 11 am on Wednesday 21 May at the National Conciliator’s Office at Bulevardi in Helsinki.

JHL’s administration will process the conciliation proposal on Tuesday. We will provide more news after all parties have told their answers on Wednesday and we know how this affects the collective agreement negotiations.

A strike at the University of Helsinki and the University of Turku approaches if a settlement is not reached

A 24 hours long strike is going to take place at the University of Helsinki and the University of Turku on 27 May if the negotiations do not produce a settlement before that.

Bargaining on the new collective agreement for universities has continued for over three months. The National Conciliator began to mediate the collective agreement negotiations about four weeks ago. Industrial action began on the week before last week with a strike at Tampere University on 7 May.

The Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL, the Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals JUKO, and Trade Union Pro represent the employees in the collective agreement negotiations for universities, and Finnish Education Employers represents the employers.
