JHL donates 5000 euros to Gaza

Trade Union JHL donates 5000 euros to emergency aid in Gaza. The donation is addressed to the international organisation Doctors Without Borders.
War-wrecked Gaza is in a dire humanitarian crisis. The war that escalated in October 2023 has caused and explosive growth of the need for aid in the area.
The health care situation in Gaza has become even more difficult after Israel prevented deliveries of all kinds of supplies and food into the area in March 2025. In the recent weeks some aid deliveries have been allowed into the area, but for example Doctors Without Borders has stated that it is not enough.
Some of Israel’s attacks have targeted hospitals. According to the World Health Organisation WHO, at least 94% of the hospitals in the Gaza area are damaged or destroyed. Currently only 19 of the 36 hospitals in the area remain operational.
The health care system in Gaza was overburdened already before the escalation of the war because Israel has been blockading Gaza for almost twenty years.
Aid from primary health care to surgical operations
Trade Union JHL’s donation to Gaza is going to be spent on supporting especially the health care system. The money is donated to Doctors Without Borders organisation’s operations in Gaza.
Doctors Without Borders is an impartial humanitarian organisation that specialises in providing medical care. It has currently more than one thousand employees in Gaza. The organisation also tells that it supports more than 1500 local employees of the Gaza Health Ministry.
Some of the main ways how Doctors Without Borders helps in Gaza are providing primary health care, postnatal care and vaccinations. The organisation also performs surgical operations and provides for example mental health services.
– We wanted to make a donation to Gaza because the humanitarian emergency in the area is huge. Many trade union members have contacted us and asked how help could be offered through JHL. People have a great need to find ways to do something, comments JHL’s Immigrant Activities Specialist Linda Savonen.
