Actives requested Kari Bagge to stand for election as JHL’s Chief Executive Officer

28.5.2026

A group of active members in JHL’s Union Council requested Kari Bagge to stand for election as a Chief Executive Officer of the union. Bagge has agreed to the request.

A group of active members in Trade Union JHL’s Union Council has requested Kari Bagge to stand for election as JHL’s Chief Executive Officer. The request was presented on Thursday 28 May in Helsinki. The actives said that they consider Bagge to be the best choice as a Chief Executive Officer because he has the competence, zeal and skills to develop and reform the union.

“Kari has versatile experience and extensive expertise, as well as excellent negotiation and people skills. That is precisely the kind of person that JHL needs as a Chief Executive Officer. Kari is approachable and warm, cares for the members, and is highly competent and a good collaborator”, the actives explain their choice.

Bagge agreed to the request and will stand for election and be available as the Chief Executive officer of the union for the next five-year term.

“I receive this request humbly, and it makes me very happy. Right now, the world of work undergoes possibly a greater transformation than ever before. I consider it very important that in this change JHL members’ voice is heard loud and clear and employees’ position becomes stronger and not weaker.”

“Employees are the great force in the world of work. A wise employer understands that a thriving employee is the best possible investment in all operations. I will be more than happy to speak for JHL on these arenas.”

“It would be a great honour to have the opportunity to develop JHL into an even stronger trade union that remains strong in the future as well”, Bagge thanks for confidence in him.

JHL’s Union Council elections are in February 2027. JHL’s new Union Council will assemble in an assembly meeting on 7 June 2027 and elect the President and two Chief Executive Officers for the union for the next five-year term. The current Chief Executive Officers are Mari Keturi and Saila Ruuth. Keturi is standing for election as the President of the union

The Union Council is the union’s highest decision-making body and consists of 120 elected members. Its term of office is 5 years. Kari Bagge works as the director of employee relations at Attendo. He has worked at JHL in years 2018–2022 as a senior bargaining specialist and the director of organisational affairs. He also has work experience both in the public and private social welfare and health care sector. Bagge has training and degrees of practical nurse, Bachelor of Social Services, Master of Social Sciences, vocational teacher and work community counsellor.
