Practical nurses deserve proper pay and terms and conditions of employment. Trade Union JHL stands up for practical nurses, both in collective agreement negotiations and in workplaces. Join JHL.

JHL is also a powerful trade union in the social welfare and health care sector. We represent the interests of all professionals of this sector.

Your occupational title can be almost anything, and you can join JHL. Read what JHL does in the social welfare and health care sector.

Practical nurse, join JHL

We at JHL defend your terms and conditions of employment, whether you work for example in home care, assisted living, or institutional care.

Your employer can be a private company or a wellbeing services county, and we have your back either way.

Practical nurse, JHL defends your interests

Many practical nurses work at private companies. These companies operate for example assisted living facilities and nursing homes for the elderly.

The terms and conditions of employment of a practical nurse depend on what is achieved in collective agreement negotiations. More JHL members means a better position for us to negotiate for example about pays and holidays.

In the collective agreement negotiations in 2025 and 2026, JHL was the union that was willing to fight for better pay to practical nurses.

Can the general pay increase level be challenged without consequences?

JHL offers practical nurses support in the workplace and an easy channel for meeting colleagues

Practical nurse, when you join JHL, you will find an extensive network of colleagues who work in the same sector. We have created an online discussion and meeting forum for professionals of the social welfare and health care sector.

Representation of interests and support in workplaces are among the most important functions of Trade Union JHL.

We educate and support union representatives (shop stewards) and occupational safety and health representatives, who will help you when a disagreement arises in your workplace.

Who can join JHL?

We are a good union for practical nurses. You can join Trade Union JHL when you work for:

  • the state, a municipality, a joint municipal authority, a wellbeing services county or a parish
  • an enterprise or a company owned by one of the above
  • an association or a non-profit organisation
  • a company or corporation that provides services for the public sector, or a corresponding line of business.

You will get loads of membership benefits when you join our union

As a member of JHL, you will get an extensive travel insurance that also covers your children, as well as nice discounts on festival tickets, hotel nights and holiday destinations around Finland!

You can also benefit for example from discounts on cruises, rental cars, fuel, and fitness services!
