Graphic with text: Only trade union membership secures your terms and conditions of employment

Do you know why you get paid more for work that you do late in the evening, at night, and in shifts at odd hours? All these bonuses are paid because they are specified in collective agreements. Your collective agreement is negotiated by your trade union.

The core mission of Trade Union JHL is to defend and improve our members’ terms and conditions of employment through negotiations.

We negotiate the terms and conditions of employment for numerous agreement sectors, and our members work in about one thousand different occupations in six occupational sectors.

We can achieve the best outcomes in negotiations when as many employees as possible are members of JHL.

Only trade union membership secures your terms and conditions of employment

In Finland, the law does not guarantee minimum wages or minimum working hours for employees. During this government term we have furthermore seen that the laws of working life can change quite drastically to the disadvantage of ordinary employees.

It is hard to even determine the monetary value of all collective agreement terms negotiated by trade unions. We have bargained the pay increases, shift allowances and pay during family leaves. Only trade union membership secures your terms and conditions of employment.

The table below shows what has been agreed better in collective agreements compared to the law.

A table that shows that the following things are specified only in collective agreemenst, not in the law: pay raises; evening, night and shift bonuses; midweek holiday compensations; paid leave if a child gets ill; family leave with pay; holiday bonus; working time bonuses and other bonuses; minimum working hours; minimum wage; and coffee breaks
