JHL’s membership card will be replaced with a mobile card at the turn of the year

17.9.2024

JHL's mobile membership card on a smartphone screen.

Trade Union JHL’s plastic membership cards will be history at the end of this year. In the beginning of 2025 we will move to mobile era, which has many advantages. On your phone the membership benefits and services are at your fingertips anytime.

JHL’s traditional plastic membership cards expire at the end of this year. It is very important to check now at myJHL service that your contact details are up to date.

In December you will receive a text message with a link to the phone number that you have provided to us. Use the link to download your new card so that you are all set up for using the mobile card from the start of the year 2025.

Remember to make sure that your information in myJHL is correct!

Many of our trade union members are already familiar with the mobile card. Currently about one fourth of our members use the mobile option.

If this is the first time that you set up the mobile card, click the link in the text message that you receive to your phone in December and register as a user in the service. You will create a username and a password, and after that the membership card will be available in an application called MagMa Lompakko.

If you don’t have a smartphone

You don’t need to worry if you do not use a smartphone. From December onwards, you can print a certificate of membership from myJHL service. And if you do not have a printer at your disposal, printing is possible for example in libraries.

Please note that this certificate is not an insurance certificate. It can only be used instead of the membership card as a proof of your trade union membership.

Always up to date

You can easily check all current membership benefits in the mobile card. They are automatically updated, so you always have the latest information. It’s convenient and care-free!

Lost card – a problem of the past!

Unlike the physical card, the mobile card cannot become lost. If you accidentally remove it or switch to a new phone, you can order a new card from myJHL service and redownload the card anytime. This means less worry about losing the card.

You can use your insurance without the membership card

Many may be worried about what happens with the travel insurance or other membership benefits when there is no physical card.

However, the member insurance, including the travel insurance, does not depend on the card. A physical card is not required as proof of the validity of the insurance.

We highly recommend you to also download the TaskuTurva app (page in Finnish). TaskuTurva contains your insurance card, as well as instructions for emergencies and a search for doctors and places for medical treatment.

Remember to always make sure that your membership is up to date before you travel. The insurances are only valid when everything is in order with your trade union membership.

If you need a travel insurance certificate, you can print it from Turva’s online service or contact Turva’s customer service to have it delivered to you.

You can get help in a sudden emergency even if you do not have any card or certificate with you. The SOS International travel emergency service has all the necessary insurance information. The SOS International service provides service 24/7, every day of the year.

Your trade union membership needs to be in order also when you use this service.

Good for the environment, too

JHL wants to operate in an environmentally sustainable way and choose solutions that are better for the environment. We are committed to reducing our environmental and climate footprint, as testified for example by our Green Office certificate.

Giving up plastic membership cards supports these efforts. Sending cards regularly to all our members results into a significant amount of plastic, which we can eliminate by moving to a mobile card.
