Trade Union JHL shows unwavering support to the Industrial Union: a new handling blockade starting from 10 February

5.2.2025

JHL will support the Industrial Union’s collective bargaining with a third handling blockade. The final day of the new blockade is Friday 14 February, unless the negotiations reach a result before that.

The collective agreement negotiations of the Industrial Union have still not produced a result that would be acceptable for the employees.

Trade Union JHL continues to support the collective agreement negotiations of industrial employees and will start a new handling blockade to boost their collective bargaining.

The negotiations need to find a result that helps the employees in their daily lives, reminds Håkan Ekström, the President of the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL.

– Pay rises need to be at a level that truly helps to fix the recent years’ drop in the employees’ purchasing power. What the employers forget to mention is that pay rises boost the Finnish economy when people can afford to consume, Ekström stresses.

A handling blockade is lawful industrial action. The blockade concerns agreement sectors for which the Industrial Union has issued a strike warning. JHL’s industrial action will start on Monday 10 February 2025 and end on Friday 14 February 2025, unless a result is reached in the negotiations before that.

This handling blockade is already the third in JHL’s series of solidarity action for industrial employees. The first handling blockade started on 27 January and ended on 1 February. The second blockade started on Monday 3 February and will end at the latest on Saturday 8 February.

This industrial action will affect cargo handling for example in ports and rail transport. Employees will not load or unload the products of companies that are subject to the industrial action. Transport sector employees may refuse to transport the goods of these companies. In addition to Trade Union JHL, support measures have also been organised by the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union AKT, the Finnish Seafarers’ Union, Service Union United PAM, the Finnish Construction Trade Union, and the Finnish Electrical Workers´ Union.
