The Summer Job Helpline offers free advice on working life questions

16.5.2025

Does something in your employment contract look odd? Did your employer not pay you for everything that they should have? The Summer Job Helpline offers help with your summer job at every step along the way.

The Summer Job Helpline advises summer workers throughout the summer – from before signing the employment contract all the way to the end of the employment. You can contact the service if you want to ask about something that concerns your job: for example your pay, work shifts, holiday compensations or onboarding.

– Our goal is that no summer worker gets left alone with their questions, emphasises Summer Job Helpline advisor Toni Heikkilä.

Help when you need it

The Summer Job Helpline is a service specifically for the youth and young adults who are at the start of their working life. Questions about pay were the most usual reason for contacting the helpline last year, but different questions were asked at different points of the summer. In the beginning of the summer, the most typical questions concerned employment contracts or onboarding, in high summer working time and Summer Job Vouchers, and in the end of the summer the callers wanted to know about outstanding pay and holiday compensations.

You can contact the service at any point of an employment relationship – as soon as the summer job is confirmed, or even in the middle of a working day.

How to contact the Summer Job Helpline

By phone: 0800 179 279 (Mon–Thu from 9 am to 3 pm). The calls are toll-free.
On WhatsApp: 040 747 1571
Using the online form: kesaduunari.fi/english

You can ask for example:

  • How do I enter an employment contract?
  • How is my pay calculated?
  • What is a trial period and what does it mean?
  • How does holiday compensation work?
  • What should I do if my working hours don’t match?

Questions are always handled confidentially, and there is no need to be shy about asking for help. You can even ask your question anonymously, if you want.

You should also view the summer job checklist and frequently asked questions on the Summer Job Helpline website. They provide practical tips for getting ready for your summer job and answers for some of the most typical situations.

If you need, you can also ask for advice from senior colleagues, your workplace’s shop steward or the trade union of your sector.

Please note that the Summer Job Helpline does not provide help with finding a summer job. You can inquire about job openings for example from the employment services of municipalities and employment areas.

Who provides this service and for whom is it intended?

The Summer Job Helpline is intended for all summer workers – regardless of where you work and whether or not you are a union member. The service is provided jointly by the Finnish labour confederations SAK, Akava and STTK. The service is open until 31 August 2025.
