Forming an electoral alliance for JHL’s Union Council elections 2027
Nomination of candidates for JHL’s Union Council elections opens in October 2026. You can form an electoral alliance now, and it only requires two candidates.
Trade Union JHL will organise Union Council elections in February–March 2027. The Union Council is Trade Union JHL’s highest decision-making body.
Nomination of Union Council candidates begins in October 2026. All JHL members who meet the requirements can become candidates.
Candidates can join an electoral alliance or stand for election without an alliance.
An electoral alliance can be formed by a minimum of two JHL members who are candidates in the same electoral district.
Trade Union JHL has informed the parties represented in the Finnish Parliament of its Union Council elections and of forming electoral alliances.
Important dates for forming an electoral alliance
- If you want your electoral alliance to be in JHL’s elections system when nomination of candidates begins, the electoral alliance must be formed at the latest by 5 October 2026.
- Information on a formed electoral alliance must be delivered to the Central Elections Committee at the latest on 11 December 2026 by midnight.
How can I form an electoral alliance or join one?
- You can form an electoral alliance by filling in an electronic form (in Finnish) available on JHL’s Material Bank.
- Electoral alliances can be based on political parties or formed around a specific cause.
- Electoral alliances can cover the whole country or a specific electoral district.
- Forming an electoral alliance requires a minimum of two candidates who stand for election in the same electoral district.
- If an electoral alliance has been formed by 5 October 2026, it will be included as an option in JHL’s elections system when nomination of candidates begins.
- A candidate can join an electoral alliance that is available in JHL’s elections system.
- If an electoral alliance is not in the system, it is the responsibility of each electoral alliance’s representatives to take care that those who want to join the electoral alliance are able to do so.
