Personal assistants get their own theme day – we invite personal assistants to participate in a writing contest where you can win prizes
The new annual Personal Assistants’ Day will be celebrated for the first time on 19 November. JHL and insurance company Turva mark the day by organising a writing contest that is open to all personal assistants.
The purpose of this new special day is to increase people’s awareness of personal assistants’ work.
Personal assistants do valuable work that is often unseen and deserves more attention and appreciation. They are people of many skills, who help users of assistance in all kinds of things from getting dressed and washing up to household chores and moving around.
“A personal assistant’s work is important because it enables a person who uses assistance to live an independent, dignified and self-determined life,” says the President of JHL Håkan Ekström.
This is reflected also in the day’s theme this year, which is “With you” (“Sinun kanssasi”). We intend to celebrate the day with a new theme every year from now on.
The main event of the day is organised in Tampere
JHL organises the Personal Assistants’ Day together with insurance company Turva.
“We want to contribute to highlighting the value and importance of personal assistants’ work and to bring more attention to personal assistants’ versatile skills and day-to-day encounters,” says the CEO of Turva Ville Raunio.
The main event of the day is organised in Turva’s head office in Tampere on 19 November. The winners of a personal assistants’ writing contest are awarded in this event, and the audience is entertained by stand-up comedian Tommi Vänni. The President of JHL Håkan Ekström and the CEO of Turva Ville Raunio will also attend the celebration.
The event is open for all personal assistants. There is a limited number of seats, so hurry up and register here. If you work as a personal assistant but are not a trade union member yet, we welcome you to come and learn about us!
Writing contest for personal assistants!
JHL and Turva mark the day by organising a writing contest for personal assistants about the theme of the day, “With you”.
You do not need to be an experienced writer to participate in the contest. The most important thing is the feeling that your text conveys.
You can write anything from poetry to rap lyrics. Don’t be shy, even just a few lines of text are enough.
Entering the contest is simple:
- Tell about your daily work. What is your day at work like? What kinds of successes or beautiful encounters or harmless mishaps have you experienced?
- Focus on the content – it does not matter if you make mistakes when you write.
- The text can be any kind of written creation, for example a poem, rap lyrics or prose.
- The maximum length of the text is one A4 page.
Sending your text:
- Send your text by 22 October to amky@jhl.fi.
- Write “Kirjoituskilpailu 2025” in the subject line and write your full name, email address and phone number in the end of the email message field.
- When you enter the contest, you give a permission to publish and use your text or parts of it in JHL’s communications or other marketing. JHL’s communications unit will edit and proofread the texts that are published.
Contest prizes:
- The first prize of the contest is a Super Gift Card with the value of EUR 100, the second prize is a gift card with the value of EUR 70, and the third prize is a gift card with the value of EUR 50.
- The gift cards are donated by insurance company Turva.
- Contest participants also have a chance to win a prize in a prize draw where JHL hands out 10 product prizes.
Choosing the winner:
- A panel will choose the winners of the writing contest on 27 October, and the winners will be notified individually. The winners will be announced for the public in the main event of the Personal Assistants’ Day.
- The panel will focus on the content of the text, not on spelling or grammar.
- The panel members are personal assistant Tarja Al Hanan, Turva’s Key Account Manager Tiina Neuvonen, and specialist in occupation-specific activities Sami Haapakoski and senior bargaining specialist Laura Tuominen from JHL.
- Registration for the main event on 19 November closes on 31 October.
