Your shop steward is there to help

The JHL shop steward or chief shop steward at the workplace is the person who helps with advocacy matters and everyday problems in working life.

In advocacy matters, closest to the member are the workplace’s own JHL shop steward or chief shop steward, as well as their deputies. There are approximately 4,700 of them throughout Finland.

The shop steward is the person to turn to when facing employment-related problems. He or she monitors the implementation of collective agreements at the workplace, interprets the contents of the agreements and has negotiations with the employer. The shop steward ensures that the rules of working life are followed at the workplace.
