JHL members are entitled to membership services and many valuable benefits not available to non-members. Membership provides you with redundancy protection in the case of unemployment and in issues concerning the terms of your employment and the content of your work. Your own local branch and the union offer you a range of activities and considerable membership benefits.
The most significant benefit is, naturally, the advocacy of your interests. JHL negotiates collective agreements for both the public services and private welfare services sectors. In question of safeguarding your interests, you can turn to JHL's shop stewards and chief shop stewards at your workplace. They monitor the implementation of collective agreements, interpret their contents, conduct negotiations with employers and contribute to improving the terms of employment.
As a member of JHL, you also get some valuable commercial benefits, such as free insurance benefits and a discount on fuels.
JHL safeguards your interests
– steady support and help at hand
As a JHL member, you will get advice and help in solving problems at the workplace. JHL is there for you in all matters related to employment and the content of work.
If problems arise at the workplace, the shop steward, the nearest regional office and the central office personnel are there to support and help our members. Non-members are on their own, without the support of experienced professionals specialised in advocating employee interests.
The primary aim is to solve disputes at the workplace. If for some reason local negotiations are not successful and the employer’s actions are clearly against the law, legal proceedings can also be considered. A JHL member can receive free legal aid in proceedings arising from employment contracts.
In the event of a strike, members are entitled to the union’s industrial action benefit.
