Membership application form
You can join JHL by completing either the eletronic form (in English) or the PDF form (in Finnish) on this page. Please first read the instructions below.
The electronic form
A convenient way to join is by filling out the electronic form on JHL’s website. The shop steward or an active JHL member at your workplace can help you to fill it out.
If you
authorise your employer to automatically deduct your membership payment from your wages/salary, print up the form once it is filled out and submit the authorisation for deduction to the payroll department of your
workplace.
If the membership fee is not deducted by your employer, you can pay it yourself. In such a case, please tick the appropriate box on the application form.
The completed electronic form will be directed to the union’s membership
unit, which will confirm your membership by text message. Within the next four weeks of joining you will receive by post a membership card, contact information for your branch and other information related to membership.
The PDF form
Instructions for completing the form
Please carefully fill out the membership application form (PDF) and the agreement for deducting the membership fee. You can complete the form either
- on your computer screen and print it out or
- print out the form and complete it by hand.
After filling out the form, print out two copies of it: one for yourself and one for the union. If you complete the form manually, take one photocopy of it for yourself. Application form you send to the union must be signed.
Complete the information concerning your employer, even if the fee is not deducted by your employer but is paid directly by you personally.
If you change jobs or move to another union branch, fill out a new agreement authorising deduction of the membership fee within 30 days of the termination of the previous agreement.

After completing the form
Once you have completed the form, deliver the copies to the shop steward at your workplace or the JHL branch officer responsible for membership issues at your workplace or locality as soon as possible. If you don’t know who the JHL job steward at your workplace is or if you aren’t certain which branch would best suit you, send the copies to the JHL Membership Unit so that they can decide the appropriate branch.
If you prefer to pay the membership fee yourself, reference bank giros will be posted to your home address. You also have to pay the fee yourself if your employer is a small company that does not deduct the fee directly from your pay.
If payroll deduction of the membership fee fails to start immediately from the date you join JHL, JHL’s Membership Unit posts reference bank giro and you can pay the fee for the period in question yourself in order to continue your union membership without interruption.
If you have given your mobile phone number in the membership application form, you will also receive a confirmation of acceptance from JHL’s Membership Unit in the form of a text message as soon as you have been entered as a member in JHL’s membership register.
Your JHL membership card, pocket diary and a brochure introducing the membership benefits, together with other membership material, will be delivered to your home address at the latest within 3-4 weeks after being entered in the register.
