Nordic co-operation
JHL works in close co-operation with its Nordic sister unions. JHL is involved in various Nordic joint organisations both in the local and central government sector.
The Nordic Public Service Unions NOFS
With some 50 affiliates and 2.5 million members, the Nordic public sector trade unions make up a large part of both PSI (Public Services International) and EPSU (European Federation of Public Service Unions). The Nordic countries work in close co-operation and aim to find joint views on international questions relating to the safeguarding of their members’ interests. NOFS was established for this co-operation and is also the official Nordic constituency of both PSI and EPSU.
The Nordic Federation of Unions of Municipal Employees (KNS/KPY)
JHL is also active in the Nordic Federation of Unions of Municipal Employees. Other members of the Federation are the Swedish union Kommunal, the Norwegian union Fagforbundet and the Danish union FOA.
The Federation’s activities include two Nordic conferences on current topics. The conferences discuss occupational issues and questions relating to trade union activities, and more general topics such as the collective bargaining policy, employment policy and themes relating to European integration and globalisation.
The Nordic Union for the Service Sectors SUN
SUN is the Nordic joint organisation for unions in the real estate, insurance, banking, social insurance, cleaning and security sectors. SUN has affiliate organisations in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the Faroe Islands, comprising in total some 100,000 members.
SUN handles current issues relating to securing the members’ interests and the working environment. The various industries organise their own Nordic-level courses. JHL is involved in SUN’s activities to promote the interests of its members in the real estate management and cleaning sectors.
Nordic Transport Workers’ Federation NTF
JHL participates in the activities of NTF to promote the interests of its members in dockwork and passenger traffic, and is represented in its corresponding sections. The activities focus on monitoring the development of legislation in the traffic sector, security issues, competitive bidding and the development of working conditions.
In addition to the above-mentioned joint organisations, JHL is involved in the Nordic co-operation of the state concerning cartels, in the Nordic co-operation of the Finnish Defence Forces and in the Nordic union for road builders and workers in industrial and plant construction.
