International JHL – promoting decent work and public services of high quality
International representation of interests is an integral part of our work. Internationality is reflected in the everyday operations of the union, its local branches and in the everyday lives of our members.
Quality public services are key in fighting poverty and the global financial crisis. Providing high-quality public services presupposes that the rights of public sector employees are fully respected. As an affiliate of Public Services International (PSI) and the International Transport Forum (ITF), we actively work to promote decent work, trade union rights and high-quality public services.
European level representation of interests involves preserving the European social model and promoting social dialogue with the employer organisations. European level representation of interests entails cooperation with other public sector trade unions in Finland.
The cooperation in Finland is organised and coordinated by the Finnish Public Services Unions' EU Working Party FIPSU . Another important cooperative forum for JHL is FinUnions , the EU office of Finnish trade union confederations.
At the moment, solidarity among trade unions is needed perhaps more than in years. Therefore, it is essential to participate in shared development cooperation projects between trade unions. JHL supports the trade unions of developing countries together with the Trade Union Solidarity Centre of Finland (SASK) and Public Services International (PSI).
As a responsible actor in the trade union movement, we maintain that all our operations are environmentally and socially sustainable. To fulfil this principle, we cooperate with Fairtrade Finland and Finnwatch to investigate the working conditions in different subcontractor supply chains.
